Max is looking for a P et/Companion home with lots of people to love!

Max is an almost 4 year old female Anatolian shepherd (DOB 4/2/19). She is a giant, gentle couch potato who loves all humans. I mean, she absolutely ADORES them. When I bring her to work with me, she cries quietly and wags her tail whenever she sees a client approaching the front door. Then she greets them with gentle nose nudges and a wagging tail. Everyone falls in love with her. We need to find her a new home because she does not like being around active, excitable dogs that get in her face. We believe this is because in her previous life she was attacked numerous times by the other Anatolians in her home. One of my clients gave her to us almost a year ago to either foster or adopt because other 3 Anatolians in her home were trying to kill her. She has turned out to be such a good girl—- mellow and calm and patient and loving with our little foster puppies. She has been good with our cats, too (though she does chase them occasionally). Unfortunately, because of her past, she occasionally flips and pins our other dogs if they get really excited near her or especially if they startle her and she feels threatened. Most of the time she doesn’t hurt them, though there have been a few occasional punctures. But we have so many dogs that this terrifies the dog she is flipping, and also sends all the other dogs into an uproar, which stresses her out even more. Because of this, combined with all the fostering that we do, we feel like we need to find her a quieter home. I think she would probably be ok with a calm dog or two. Our dogs are just too crazy for her. Max’s ideal home would have a few people to love her (including children- she is soooo gentle with them). She would probably make an excellent therapy dog to bring to hospitals and nursing homes because of her gentle nature and extreme love of people, plus her giant size and beautiful appearance.

Max is spayed, up to date on all vaccines and preventatives, and does not have any health problems that we are aware of. Also, she hasn’t had any formal training but she is house trained, crates well, doesn’t pull on the leash, and isn’t a huge digger or barker. She will bark when she sees deer or strange cats in the yard, but she isn’t one to bark nonstop all the time for no reason.

We live just outside of Charleston, SC and transportation assistance may be available for the right home. We will ask for a small donation a local rescue that we support, and we will check a vet reference and ask to see photos of your home to make sure that she is going to a safe place.
