WHITEFISH, MONTANA
Hazel and Coal

4 year old Anatoilian Shepherds desperately need the RIGHT home.

I took these beautiful ASs as a rehome as a working pair of LGDs.  The owner failed to mention that they were raised inside with people and then put out with livestock that they never really guarded.  They have bonded to people and not livestock.
Hazel loves people and is learning quickly that we don’t like to be jumped on or pawed at.  She loves attention.  She tends to instinctually think she should be closer to the livestock than Coal, but won’t venture far away from where she’s been fed or far from where she thinks people may show up soon.  She is not aggressive toward stock animals or people.  She is, however, aggressive towards other dogs, particularly about food and the entire area surrounding feeding areas.  I don’t know about cats. She is spayed.

Coal is a one (wo)man dog. He prefers women and is wary of men, but I believe he would bond to a man if that was his person.  He needs to be in a home where other people are introduced under controlled or predictable circumstances and there are no other dogs.  Once introduced, he is fine with visitors so long as they don’t show any aggression towards his person.  Coal will guard a yard about an acre or so I suspect.  He is very bonded to his person (me currently) and to Hazel.  He is not neutered.  His ideal situation would be one where he can just follow his person around and sit with a hand on his head.

Hazel and Coal would prefer to stay together as they have been together their whole lives.  However, they need new homes and I will rehome them individually.  They love each other but don’t tolerate any other dogs.  They can be led on a leash with harness.  They know a few basic commands but could definitely use more work on them.  I have not had them in my house, but suspect they are house trained since the previous owner kept them in initially.  I have not seen them with kids so I would not vouch for them around children.

I believe if they were set up for success in their new home(s) they will be fantastic pets.  I would rather euthanize than send them off to another situation that would be bad for them.
